Gables Park 17

After a long weekend in sardine-can New York real estate, I wanted to see what The Gables Park 17 had to offer the Dallas real estate world at the newly minted, 292 unit high rise apartment complex. If you live in New York, you are going to sob at what you get here: bamboo floors, custom wood cabinets, thick marble counters, huge baths with soaking tubs and separate showers, deep kitchen sinks, gourmet stainless appliances, full size washers and dryers in some units, stackables in others, great terraces, great insulation — couldn’t hear the party outside once we shut the door. I was having deja vue that I was in a North Dallas home. Not to be rude, but the kitchen finish outs and back splash is way nicer than what I recall at The Palomar — and these are rentals! I was really impressed with the amenities. Having just come from The House, I thought maybe I was in another condo. Park 17 has a definite condo feel to it with a beautiful infinity edge pool, private cabanas with i-pad docking stations (yes! make my Apple stock go up!); glorious deck, media and poker rooms, theater, party rooms, gourmet cooking studio, and great fitness center. There is also great art, more than 100 pieces from local artists, on every floor and throughout the complex.

Of course, they are not cheap: rents range from $2100 for 851 square feet to $3200 for 1326 square feet, but they are running a three months free rent now if you sign a lease before July 1. Senior VP of investments Douglas Chesnut didn’t seem fazed: he explained that the number of multi-family housing units going up has been halved by the recession, partly because the banks just are not lending because the Feds do not want them to. He sees a dearth of housing units in the future and higher rents due to diminished supply.

Will post some interiors later — you won’t believe this place. My favorite: a two bedroom corner unit on the eighth floor.
